Race
commentaries:

Hey everyone,
A few words of thanks to everyone for helping pull off what I think
we can say was a successful sprint race on Saturday. I spent most of
the day up on the "KOA tower", so I was able to listen in on a lot
of
the comments that were made, since that appeared to be the center of
activity.
We can all be proud in the sense that this is a very difficult race
format to organize. Despite a few minor gaffes that were pretty much
unavoidable (someone walking off with the OC-1 results, delays in
starting the events, etc.), I heard generally good comments on the
beach, both from KOA officials and other club members.
Special thanks to Jerry (and those who helped him) in organizing the
raffle and gathering some great prizes to give away. He worked his
a** off getting these prizes and pushing the ticket sales on race
day. I know he says that he didn't quite reach his goal, but it was
very beneficial to the club overall.
Also, the t-shirts were quite a hit. Thanks to "the novicate"
ladies
for all their hard work.
One thing we really need to do for next year is make sure that all
canoes (OC-1, OC-2, OC-6) have number placards affixed to them so
that the officials can more easily identify them as they cross the
line. It was quite chaotic when numerous canoes crossed the line at
the same time. In several cases, we used "instant replay" on
Bobby's
camcorder, but even then it was difficult to go back and find a
particular canoe based on color/paddler only. Cheance from KOA
usually has these placards, but she was out of town this year.
Good job everyone!
Lance
A big thanks to Lance and all of his hard work and
organizational skills!
